“He is the most adventuresome person

I have ever met.”

Born in Panama, Robert moved with his parents to Oregon where he spent his teens.

Alaska became his next location; with his one hundred foot Schooner he ferried commercially fished Salmon to other fishermen.

Newspaper writing employments accompanied most of his stay.

Many experiences Robert has lived are described in his novels and screenplays from this time.

Later on he spent time in Eastern Oregon and Arizona ranching.

His life reads like a newspaper reporter that always gets caught up in the adventures of the assignments he happened to be working on.

He was living the adventures much like Hemmingway or Indiana Jones and with a big grin on his face loving every minute of it.

To spend his senior years, Robert has moved back to his birth place in Panama and continues his writing there.

EDITORIAL REVIEW

TECHNICAL EVALUATION

"TRES PIEDRAS was inspired, and certainly influenced by my recent exposure to the woman I've dreamed and written about my entire adult life. She was always a fictional character; the loyal life partner that made life worth living. Now, this heroine is part of my real life and inspires not only my imagination but my way of living."

An emotionally charged romance TRES PIEDRAS by ROBERT HATTING which takes place between two ordinary people, Willis and Cecilia on a fifty-four-foot fishing boat steering from Oregon to Panama, is so different from the usual American books releases.

Adventurer and western writer Robert Hatting made a short escape from his traditional genre and brought a woman “to the board”.

The story is situated between the spacious shores of America and Panama, on the boat, which became a temporary living place for two strangers. A man accustomed to living alone and a woman with surprisingly strong nature. Adrenaline of both characters and mine was kept high.

Two adult, mature characters are developing believable but in the same moment unique story, which many readers would prefer enjoying only in their imagination. Author intertwines romantic element and action with ease and bounce, while sticking to his neat and highly organized style.

Willis displays positive, calm and realistic qualities dealing with any new or unexpected event while being true to himself does not try to exaggerate or hide any sign of his men’s nature. Encountering many danger situations, which other authors would use as a presentation of masculine power and strengths, I had feeling of being in a gentleman company through the entire reading.

When Cecilia enters the scene, the book gets a different tone. Author in the foreword mentioned an influence of a woman on his writings, but such deep understanding of women’s thinking and sensitively  described details which are purely  women’s (that I would not share with a man) from the women’s point of view, struck my attention.

I’m not sure if it does result from the author’s life experience, maturity or his poetic side, which deeply hidden under the face of adventurer; been expressed. But I’m certainly pleased.

What I have realized is that this is a book about a woman.  The woman on the board – woman, who changes everything, even the author's belief that he wrote the book about him, boat, or willful Panamanian culture.

TRES PIEDRAS is definitely a book which belongs to highly favorable but overcrowded genre of romance; stirring emotions while keeping realistic face. This book is also a proof that a man can write a romance with the same light touch as a woman.

The only negative point which I need to mention is the title of the book. Considering every author’s motive, for the benefit of the book I would recommend its change.

I recommend TRES PIEDRAS by ROBERT HATTING as a book suitable for summer vocations or during the holidays, certainly for an adult audience.

I give TRES PIEDRAS by ROBERT HATTING 5 stars for his contents and reader’s experience.

For the technical evaluation I give 4 stars. Technical evaluation is a private assessment, only for the author.

SHOOTER

208 pages

action/adventure/historical fiction

ebook, paperback

EDITORIAL REVIEW

TECHNICAL EVALUATION

I was really surprised when I found thriller SHOOTER by ROBERT HATTING categorized as a historic fiction.

The two timelines:

first -  where Hooker, the main character, researches and analyzes past of his grandfather, connecting him to the assassination of J.F. Kennedy and

second – his real life as retired agent, trying to pull all strings of his unconventional life together;

place this book precisely between the great titles of espionage thrillers.

Then I realized that the assassination of JFK is already part of the history, but still steering the waters between the theories of conspiracy and crime.

ROBERT HATTING known as a western writer and adventurer, not only wrote intelligent and well researched book, but used deeply from his personal experience of solitary life. I remembered the quotation which I read about ROBERT HATTING written by one of his “old friends”.

“He was living the adventures much like Hemingway or Indiana Jones and with a big grin on his face loving every minute.”

Tom Hooker, the main character, incorporated the same attitude to his everyday life, ready to leave or shoot hit men before they shot him. Instead of being overwhelmed by harsh reality of his encounters I was taken by the charm of a gentleman. Author very strongly enlivened his main character by own heart and soul making the borders between the fictional character and his personality vague.

Going through his grandfather’s diary, Hooker compares notes and researched information about the routine and behavior of a sniper, shooting a long distance. On the first look flat and cold killer’s attitude develops to a deep psychological impact, taking along main character to the spheres of self-analyses and emotional healing.

His female partner Inez playing two surprising, twisted roles in the plot: perfectly concentrated and adaptable freelance assassin and beautiful, but concealed step-sister.

Attractive surroundings of intelligence tactics and world of top society, private jets and worldwide traveling  as a background makes from the book an intense reader’s experience.

Did Hooker’s grandfather play part in JFK’s assassination or he is just person who fits to the details and psychological portrait in a fictional version of the entire event? This is a literary question. The art and craft of the author make both alternatives possible.

I highly recommend and give 5 stars for the contents and reader’s experience.

I give 4 stars for technical evaluation with recommendations for improvements needed to get deserved commercial success.  Technical evaluation is a private assessment, only for the author.

UNTAMED

EDITORIAL REVIEW

TECHNICAL EVALUATION

“I let people make their own decisions. Life becomes more humorous that way."

This quotation from the contemporary western UNTAMED by ROBERT HATTING expresses two most appealing character’s traits – self-confidence and sense of humor – accompanying the narrative from the beginning till the end.

Curtis Dawson, professional journalist is running and hiding around the world, after he witnessed  and  documented a massacre in Vietnam. He is not just journalist who happened to be at a right moment in a right place, but also a last person – eyewitness – after his own military squad was killed alongside.

When he arrives to his home soil – he is hunted even more.  Stigma on the American government for killing own people, that has since 70’s when the storyline began to unfold, intensified almost to a cliché today, is just the introduction to the story.

Author placed the heavy weight on the Curtis’ undercover existence – rodeo rider, rancher, and adventurer, free man knowing own needs and playing fair.

I’m sure that only person who lived life of rancher/cowboy was able to write such authentic scenes; and only who loved such a life, can introduce vivid intimate moments between man and horse, practical skills of shoeing and common sense in every daily routine.

I enjoyed cowboy’s jargon with quick wit used in dialogues between Curtis and his friend RC Bellars, even I’m not accustomed to that kind of vernacular.

The book may not win any literary awards, but for sure wins hearts of many readers. Its simple, linear plot with inserted episodes that monitors political and intelligence development of the case, keep the vigorous pace of the book and reader’s attention in.

In the present shallow world of virtual “likes” I highly recommend this book as an escape to the world of real, down to earth human relationships, honor and loyalty.

This book certainly changed my vision about “cowboy” which in the consequences of the next dialog has rather a negative attribute. If all cowboys are as Curtis and his friend RC, the history needs to be rewritten.

“Okay, here’s a truth about life. There ain’t a cowboy that don’t wanna be rich, and most rich men want to be cowboys.

Yore dad inherited a lot of money, right?  He bought this ranch so he could play cowboy. He don’t do any of the work, but he gets to wear cowboy duds and tell all his highfaluti’n friends that all is well out on the ranch”.

I recommend UNTAMED by ROBERT HATTING to every reader, fed up from the coldness of artificial intelligence and flat bonds between the characters in mainstream releases.

I give UNTAMED by ROBERT HATTING 5 stars for contents and reader’s experience.

I give 4 stars for technical evaluation. Technical evaluation is a private assessment, for the author only.

ALASKA BE DAMNED!

367 pages

action/adventure

ebook, paperback

EDITORIAL REVIEW

TECHNICAL EVALUATION

ALASKA BE DAMNED! by author, ROBERT HATTING was my personal pick. I read other books from that author, but Alaska be Damned! stood upright and kept its attraction.

I was not sure what to expect but earlier experience with author’s abundant life’s encounters enriched by his vast imaginary and translated into books was a promise.

And that promise unfolded in a real and deep experience which only a person with a true passion for life can offer, and as a bonus gifted with a writing skills share willingly with the others.

Ben Reed, the main character has a voice which in my mind correlates with the voice of the author, I have never heard.  Set in the clash of the natural elements, of the powers which only Mother nature can create, the author exhibits the extraordinary quality of the human character, able to equal natural forces and to keep the pace with the ever-changing conditions and situations.

Skilled fisherman on the daring shores of Alaska hears the call “MAYDAY” and takes it as his mission to help. Without jumping to the conclusion and playing “hero” he practically considers the situation and acts as reasonably as possible. With the backup of his son on the other boat and under the threat of worsening weather conditions places the needs of others before his own and proceeds.

Two survivors; an old man and a young woman in such a distress cannot believe that a “miracle” happened and a real, alive “human being” reached them.  The emotions of happiness are high and comparable to those of previous despair. Ben reads the situation and adjusts the steps of his “rescue mission” to the actual conditions.

The first escalation of the plot brings to the reader easy choice which many would follow: listen to the Coast Guards and wait for the “professional” help. The dose of luck of two survivors would be justified by the act of their finding.

Nevertheless, that is not a choice for Ben Reed. He already risked his life to get there; it would be sheer absurdity to let advantages for survivals of all just disappear in the name of procedural orders and obeying the authorities.

The greatest inner struggle:  to obey and follow the instruction of those who are in authority given by a law or listen to own sense of what is right to do, can be an experience which elates readers to soaring levels of excitement and fulfills the role of a good book and a quality entertainment.

Yet, this is merely shallow look at the deep philosophical and humane reflections author displayed in a way understandable and clear for many to ponder; for only a few to relate and exhibit in a real life.

Under a threat of being penalized for breaking formal rules, Ben Reed prefers to care and respect the needs of vulnerable. He accepts his own vulnerability, handle his unpretentious exposure to the sensible side of his men’s character and implies justice in its pure and honest version to his deeds.

Life tests only those who are ready, so on the way out of the first crisis, Ben finds himself involved in the second rescue mission.  Natural forces didn’t lower their high stakes as he didn’t bend under the accusation of manslaughter.

The greed, power, and manipulation on one side collide with a pure friendship, honesty, and love on a magnificent background of virgin Alaskan landscapes and ingenious attempt to deal with politics without lateral intentions and personal agendas.

The fast-paced development of the story-line and true values of life, so missing from our present existence, places this novel on shelves of a romance rather than an adventure and a drama.

High ideals, the authenticity of author’s approach, imaginative and playful scenes and true human emotions makes from this book a jewel between the contemporary American independent releases.

I appreciate author’s sense of humor and his mastery to create a tense situation while by the unpredictable swing of the hand relieves it in a way of a successful comedian.

In the center of all superhuman and technically advanced heroes, created in the name of superficial entertainment and very far from possibility to be followed or taken as a positive example, however amazing especially young generation, the hero of ALASKA BE DAMNED! seems to be “superhuman” too but in a sense of performing such a strong character unbeatable by natural forces, weakness of others or unpredictable circumstances.

Author ROBERT HATTING created Ben Reed as a fictional character, but without his vast life experiences this character would be just superficial as all present “movie heroes”; in the name of saving one person killing and damaging thousands of others. Ben Reed in the name of saving three persons didn’t compromise his integrity; he challenged the system established on the power of control over others, on behalf of all.

ALASKA BE DAMNED! by ROBERT HATTING fit to my picture of literature, dealing with the acute problems of the entire society and challenging every reader to comprehend the meaning of a relative truth.

I give ALASKA BE DAMNED! by ROBERT HATTING 5 stars for contents and readers experience.

For the technical evaluation, I give 3 stars. The technical evaluation is a private assessment, only for the author.

MURDER IN PANAMA

194 pages

action/adventure

ebook, paperback

EDITORIAL REVIEW

TECHNICAL EVALUATION

MURDER IN PANAMA by ROBERT HATTING is the first part of crime/adventure trilogy. REVOLUTION OF FOOLS is the second and HART RULES the third. All three parts are stand-alone books, connected by the main character Jimmy HART.

Jimmy Hart, retired S.E.A.L. member, lives his unconventional life in the island near the cost of Panamanian shore province Chiriquí. His attention is divided between his boat, his inventions and his strong trait for justice and altruism. Seems to be boring? Not at all!

Two Peace Corps volunteer female members in Panama during their day off lost their boat and spent a night on the uninhabited, unwelcome coastline. They were lucky to be noticed by a stranger, probably American, but evidently Panamanian resident. His straightforward attitude and body signed by evident burned scars spoke loud about his adventurous life.  He rescued them and offered the hospitality of his house to recover and contact their officials. Jimmy Hart and his friend Lowdown evidently left an impression on Coreen and Sue.  The chemistry between them and the eccentric surrounding of Jimmie’s existence became the main story line and exciting experience for a reader.

Author Robert Hatting is master in creating genuine and believable rescue missions for his main characters.   They are always very sympathetic and while operating generally in a rough environment or conditions, they offer the company of a gentleman with a strong protective character towards women and dominating, unwavering attitude in every deed. After Ben Reed, the main character of the novel “Alaska be Damned!” Jimmy Hart is next, always a step ahead before an unexpected circumstances, uncompromising his high level of morals. Author creating this strong fictional character added an electrifying element to the story; however the special wit and ambiguous situations expect also matured, broad-minded reader ready to comprehend the depth of author’s wisdom and style.

Coreen, her boyfriend and Sue during the friendly visit of their rescuers became the first high pitch of the story. Coreen seeing her muscle-bound, by the testosterone driven boyfriend in the light of the responsive and caring, gentle attitude of Jimmy Hart realized the futile meaning of her factitious relationship.  In the way to terminate it, she became the object of his abusive treating. However, the author added an unexpected twist to that scene and from the kidnapped and bitten Coreen became victim of the rape and life threatening from the trio of scoundrels.

Jimmy Hart on his rescue mission loosens his military drill and applies decisive command engaging new characters and background story. The medical emergency of the Coreen brought the flexibility and fast paced actions to a plot.

Five murders and sixth awaiting over the unpublished manuscript describing repulsed advantages of ozone therapy by the traditional monopolistic health care providers brought to the front connections with other’s fictional characters of ROBERT HATTING’s books.  Earlier mentioned Ben Reed, former governor of Alaska and Jerry Harding, former Jimmy’s teammate.

After Coreen’s recovery she became enthusiastic in applying the ozone therapy to practical use in the private clinic, established by Jimmy Hart. Quickly evolved emotional and sexual relationship between Coreen and Jimmy brought to the story a romantic element, believable and thanks to author’s style emotive while realistic.

Second apex and second Coreen’s involvement as a victim of poisoning with diethylene glycol, ripples the story to a complex, interconnected plot-lines: Coreen’s recovery and use of ozone therapy, search for an assassin, security of the 6th potential victim, CIA involvement.

Author deals with the intelligence in a convincing way: rather from the position of an operative than researcher, applying action driven scenes without a need to explain or describe preliminary facts. Managing descriptive elements of the story, author set the pace to be relaxed but fast flowing.

ROBERT HATTING living in Panama used his natural environment and the knowledge about to set the place for his scenes: authenticity of the site and familiarity with the habits makes this book “exotic” especially for readers out of Americas.

The combination of a strong male character with a romantic elements and rarely known real facts about the ozone therapy and other inventions mentioned in the book on the background of an intelligence operations, place the MURDER IN PANAMA by ROBERT HATTING on the shelves of internationally acclaimed bestsellers in a genre of espionage thrillers and crime/action thrillers.

I give MURDER IN PANAMA by ROBERT HATTING 5 stars for context and reader’s experience.

For the technical evaluation I give 4 stars. Technical evaluation is a private assessment, only for the author.

REVOLUTION OF FOOLS

179 pages

action/adventure/thriller

ebook, paperback

EDITORIAL REVIEW

TECHNICAL EVALUATION

REVOLUTION OF FOOLS by ROBERT HATTING is the second instalment of the crime/adventure trilogy tied to the main character Jimmy Hart.

While the first part was created with the emphases on the private life of the protagonists, the REVOLUTION OF FOOLS takes reader directly to the high politics.

Author set up broad stage for the sequel and brought almost all main characters from his other books to participate.

Jimmy Hart and his friend Lowdown recover after their mission to find a person behind the five murders connected with the manuscript describing the advantages of the ozone therapy.  Jimmy’s sixth sense warns him about the possible consequences of the assassin Borges Hughes’ and his employer’s removal.  Five high-profile executives, Chinese businessman, CIA agent and his confidential informant were enough to bring an international investigation upon him and his “crew”.

In the middle of the idyllic preparations for their honey moon and exchanging of the traveling plans for their boats, the land mines on Jimmy’s island went off.  Lucky, he and his friends were just arriving. The Chinese gang partially damaged by land mines, didn’t let Jimmy rest. Two weeks elapsed and another shooting happened on his property. Identification of two Chinese men attempting to kill Jimmy brought forth his former teammate Jerry Harding, already established with his private intelligence agency.

In the second plot-line, Marcos Glosser, person behind the Ponzi scheme, operating as insurance system in Columbia, is the mastermind behind the plan to overthrow Columbian government and with the help of Venezuela and Ecuador take over Panama. The Panamanian Canal is the asset which is wanted and also the target.

The third plot-line starts with NYPD detective Demmote getting the cold case to reopen - investigation of missing four corporate tycoons.  Two years from the retirement he understands this step as a punishment for not accepting a female partner Bette Fielding.

Her brother, analyst in CIA brought a new lead to their investigation, while reassigned to the case of Columbian Ponzi scheme artist Marcos Glosser, who escaped from US prison.

William Fielding was sent to Panama to the US embassy where the meeting with the former field agent George Pressly, conveyed more light on the whole case.

All three storylines and characters met in the embassy, while taking Chinese assassin to the custody.  Jimmy Hart delivering Archie Chow to US officials was briefed by Jerry Harding about the transpiring picture to over take Panama by three other Central American countries.

William Fielding, present while handling Archie Chow back to Panamanian authorities, overheard Jimmy‘s conversation and took arrogant step. Asking his sister at NYPD to help him with information on Connor Light and Jimmy Hart creates the tension which leads to a meeting of all participants on Jimmy’s boat heading to eliminate Marcos Glosser.

Author successfully incorporated recent heads of Central American countries to the story and made the fictional political background believable.

The most of the narrative is placed on the boats and it is clear that  the author is at home in this territory. How to operate a schooner, the kind of effect the redesign can have on the speed and how to solve the problem with leakage? Such a practical passages in the book, smoothly incorporated to the story brought me the sense of being on the boat and knowing what to do.

REVOLUTION OF FOOLS by ROBERT HATTING easy follows the first part of the trilogy and creates the atmosphere of familiarity with the characters and their dealings, while they are developing in correspondence to the events and time-line.

Author‘s humor transpire as a sarcastic punch to the face of incompetent officials.  The strong and resolute manner of dialogues using the military and intelligence jargon with ease shows his “homework” done well.

The true danger of Ponzi scheme, which is used to manipulate the poorest people into a blind supporters for the richest; background of the diplomatic chess-game, and not the “happy ending” for this part of the trilogy, added a great deal of realism to the book.

I highly recommend the REVOLUTION OF FOOLS by ROBERT HATTING for action/adventure readers but also for those who prefer military thrillers with the added pinch of political conspiracy.

I give REVOLUTION OF FOOLS by ROBERT HATTING 5 stars for contents and reader’s experience.

For the technical evaluation I give 3 stars. The technical evaluation is a private assessment, only for the author.

 HART RULES!

203 pages

action/adventure/thriller

ebook, paperback

EDITORIAL REVIEW

TECHNICAL EVALUATION

HART RULES! is the third part of the JIMMY HART trilogy by ROBERT HATTING.

The first thing which came to my mind when I read the title, and actually listened to the words was a triple entendre of heterographs and homograph - hard rules, heart rules, and Hart rules!

Did author intend to hide more than one meaning into his title or it is just a coincidence?  That Jimmy Hart rules when it comes to tough situations became clear in the third part of the book. His friend Lowdown’s shout-out came at the right time and the right place. The one, who wants to correct the wrongdoings of others, cannot waver in his decisions. He must rule.

Some people prefer to read about adventures simply because they admire the strength of the protagonists to adhere to decisions which they would not be able to take in their real life. Would you shoot someone, who is going to kill you?  Would you kill or be killed? Would you use extreme measures to protect yourself from the extreme threat? Would you still have the power to live your life after continues attempts to end it? The jungle out there has hard rules! Many people are reading about, some are living them.

There are moments when heart rules and everything else is just losing the importance.  Even the roughest men are not immune. Showing the harsh face of the world is their countermeasure against the possible detection of their deeply hidden wounds and natural longings.

All of the three meanings have been incorporated into the story; while author continued playing in the worldwide scene with many new characters.

Jimmy Hart, taking his refuge in Alaska after his house had been attacked and destroyed, received an alarming info about the possible person behind all the attempts to kill him.

Madam Secretary of State holds an enormous power in her hands, some would say more than the President of US. However, that power is not drawn from her personal ability to deal with the high politics, diplomatic talent or strategic intelligence.

She just uses others to make a dirty work on her behalf while there is someone much powerful who manipulates her and all political circuses without being on the stage.

Everyone is just marionette playing its predefined role until the marionette realizes the limits of the strings attached to her.  But who is pulling the strings? World Power Group.  They are not a legal body. They are just known under that name.  Their hands are spread from the Italian family Frangelli, for decades controllers of the Vatican bank, through the kinship strictly prearranged with persons on highest military, political and media positions. They have direct intel from White House, CIA, Pentagon …

How does Jimmy Hart realize that? When Madge Rasmussen, Secretary of State cannot be put down because of President’s unwillingness, she can be taken out by the international press.  Jimmy started a daring game and used all his connections, contacts and associates.

She was dismissed, formally charged and extradited to Panama, as an exchange for two murderers. The plane flying her to Panama belongs to Jimmy’s friend Harding, and the pilot is his. When they are passing Cuba, F-16 tried to shoot them down. Who can order F-16 and attack the civil plane?  This is not in the official protocol. Even the person in command over the Air Force wouldn’t be able to manage that.  Someone much powerful operates in the background and stops at nothing.  Loyal, but just dismissed State Secretary is dispensable.

In a parallel story-line, the author brought Conner Light back on the stage.  Experiencing a double murder in his closest circles,  he decided to shake off all his “troubles” and let them be handled by Jimmy.  The “troubles” were businesses with the value above the level of general imagination. With these troubles came also the bonus.  Yamashita’s gold. The gold stolen by Japanese and hidden in Philippines during the WWII. The history is still unclear about the source and destiny of that gold and the case was mentioned several times in novels and TV production.

Robert Hatting added a “new” lead; the submarine transporting gold crashed and only survivor happened to be Connor’s grandfather. What to do with golden ingots in value over billions? This was the bonus-task for Jimmy.

The connection between the story-lines is Jimmy’s friendship with the president of Panama. He is using his power and sources to help Jimmy find his attackers and Jimmy offers his unexpected windfall to strengthen monetary position of Panamanian currency on the international markets.

Set the Balboa on the golden standard and use the gold to mint  the golden coins exchangeable for a “paper note”.  That this paper will have higher value than US dollar? Just advantage for Panama to stand on the international scene and dictate own conditions.

One of that conditions is 300 % higher fees for every BP tanker passing Panamanian Canal until one of the World Power Group member sits at BP chair.

How the entire WPG is reacting to that? Sitting in the prison and contacting their layers. They were caught as an international group of drugs smugglers.  The world officially didn’t know that the WPG existed and who were the members, the world will not bother.

Author Robert Hatting brought the intriguing end to his Jimmy Hart Trilogy. Distress call from his boat ARC ANGEL after it was rammed by submarine.  Is it the promise of part four or a realistic completion without “happy ending”?

After reading this final part of the trilogy I needed to process an outstanding amount of facts and events author maintained to deal with the ease and order. I realized that he could let many of his characters just pass by and be forgotten. However, he turned his research, personal experiences, and imagination into strong, interconnected set of events.

Nevertheless, the characters and the story are fictional, the latest step of the BRICS to establish own “World development bank” as opposition to IMF and FED and their retraction from the Dollar based economy bear the resemblance ( for me) to Robert Hatting’s story.

Multiple intermingled story-lines could have a chaotic effect on the trilogy as a whole, but this is not the case here. The author brought the distanced episodes and events to the context with ease and flow, sometimes I had the feeling that he is writing about well-known events from his life not creating a fictional plot.

The trilogy can serve very well as a script for a TV series with manifold episodes.

I enjoyed entire trilogy and can only recommend for readers preferring “loaded” contents, authentic characters, and events, for lovers of adventure and life aboard, for all who prefer a strong male protagonist with an altruistic purpose.

I give HART RULES! by ROBERT HATTING 5 stars for contents and readers experience.

For the technical evaluation, I give 4 stars. The technical evaluation is a private assessment, only for the author.
